In a candid interview with People magazine, Dame Helen Mirren, the 78-year-old Hollywood actress known for her timeless beauty, opened up about her self-perception. “I look okay, but I’m not that beautiful,” she confessed. Despite her stunning appearance, Mirren believes in embracing individuality and accepting oneself. “We are all individuals and we all have our own individuality,” she said. “The real trick is to learn to accept yourself and love yourself, accept your absolute individuality and be proud of it.”
MIRREN CALLS FOR MORE FEMALE REPRESENTATION IN CINEMA
At the recent Lights on Women Award ceremony during the Cannes Film Festival, Mirren expressed her belief that it is high time for cinema to focus more on women. “Bringing more women into film means we see different stories told in different ways,” she stated. For too long, the industry has predominantly told stories from a male perspective, and Mirren believes it is time for a change. “It’s way past its due date for us to start to see stories told from a female point of view,” she added.
CANNES FILM FESTIVAL: A THRILL LIKE THE OSCARS
Mirren, who attended the annual film festival in France, compared the excitement she feels to that of the Academy Awards. “I get the frisson of excitement the minute I arrive,” she shared. The festival, known for its serious approach to art films, is also a hub of incredible glamour. “It’s this extraordinary mixture of a really serious, proper art film festival where film is taken very seriously,” Mirren explained. “And on top of that is this amazing sort of carapace of incredible glamour.” According to Mirren, nothing else compares to the buzz of Cannes, except perhaps the Oscars.
