COUPLE FACING JAIL AFTER STARVING THREE PET RABBITS TO DEATH

A shocking case of animal cruelty has emerged as Jack Pullen, 23, and Allana Silk, 23, admitted to the horrific crime of starving their three pet rabbits to death. The couple pleaded guilty to the charge of causing unnecessary suffering to a protected animal when they appeared at Worcester Magistrates’ Court this week.

The court heard that between August 23 and September 13 last year, Pullen and Silk failed to provide adequate nutrition and medical treatment to their rabbits, named Rosie, Ted, and Teddy. Their neglect resulted in the tragic demise of the animals. The charge against the couple stated that they knew or should have known that their failure to act would have such a devastating effect.

The RSPCA was alerted to the situation and an inspector discovered the lifeless bodies of the rabbits at the couple’s home in Worcester. Prosecutor Sara Pratt described the case as a “serious matter” where three innocent animals lost their lives due to the lack of veterinary care and a proper diet.

Pullen and Silk were released on bail and will return to court for sentencing on June 14. The maximum penalty for animal cruelty offenses is five years in prison.

This distressing incident brings to mind a similar case that occurred in 2018. Stephen Emsley narrowly avoided imprisonment after being caught brutally killing two pet rabbits and callously discarding them in a bin. Witnesses saw Emsley slam the defenseless creatures to the ground and inflict horrific injuries upon them. He was ultimately sentenced to a 20-week suspended jail term and was banned from owning animals indefinitely.

It is crucial that cases like these are taken seriously and that the perpetrators are held accountable for their actions. Animal cruelty is a grave offense and those who commit such acts must face appropriate consequences. The RSPCA, along with concerned individuals, will continue to fight for the rights and well-being of innocent animals.
