Beloved Australian children’s TV star Michael ‘Gibbo’ Gibson has tragically passed away at the age of 69 after a long battle with dementia. Known for his role on the popular Channel 7 series Agro’s Cartoon Connection, Gibson was diagnosed with dementia 18 months ago and sadly lost his fight on Monday, June 10.

In a heartfelt tribute shared on Facebook, Gibson’s grieving wife Carol described him as the “brightest of us.” She expressed gratitude that he is now free from the pain of dementia, and emphasized how fortunate they were to have shared their time with him.

Jamie Dunn, the puppeteer behind Agro, also took to social media to pay tribute to his “funny friend.” He fondly remembered Gibson’s hilarious nature and shared that he has nothing but wonderful memories of their time together.

Agro’s Cartoon Connection was a beloved children’s show that aired from 1990 to 1997 on the Seven network. The show featured the shaggy puppet Agro, who was accompanied by co-hosts Ann-Maree Biggar and Terasa Livington during different periods of its run. Gibson, known as Gibbo, not only appeared on the show but also worked behind the scenes as a producer.

Before his TV career, Gibson studied under renowned Australian TV and radio announcer Max Rowley and later attended NIDA, where he studied alongside Hollywood stars Mel Gibson and Judy Davis. He had a successful career at the Nine Network in Brisbane and also showcased his comedic talents on various radio stations.

Gibson is survived by his wife Carol and their two children. His passing is a great loss to the entertainment industry, and he will be remembered for his contributions to children’s television. Rest in peace, Gibbo.
