Sir Paul McCartney playfully took a dig at Bruce Springsteen during a recent event in London. The American songwriter was awarded the prestigious Ivor Novello fellowship, making him the first international act to receive the honor. Sir Paul, who presented the award, jokingly accused Springsteen of never having worked a day in his life. Despite the playful banter, the two musicians share a close friendship, and Springsteen warmly embraced Sir Paul as he accepted the award.

During his speech, Sir Paul listed several other deserving artists who could have received the award, including Bob Dylan, Paul Simon, Billy Joel, Beyoncé, and Taylor Swift. He then playfully suggested that if Springsteen had been a member of The Beatles, he would have been one of the most talented members. The light-hearted remarks did not affect their friendship, and the two musicians remain great friends.

The Ivor Novello fellowship has been awarded to many notable musicians in the past, including John Barry, the Bee Gees, Sting, Annie Lennox, and Sir Andrew Lloyd Webber. Elbow frontman Guy Garvey, who attended the event, praised Springsteen for his excellence and impact in the art and craft of music creation. He described Springsteen as a force to be reckoned with and a torchbearer for folk music in the world of rock.

SIR PAUL MCCARTNEY BLAMES BRUCE SPRINGSTEEN FOR LONG MUSIC CONCERTS

In a recent interview on the Conan O’Brien Podcast, Sir Paul McCartney revealed that he holds Bruce Springsteen responsible for the trend of lengthy music concerts. The legendary musician expressed his frustration, stating, “Back then [in the 1960s], it was a lot of people on the bill because nobody did long. Now people will do three or four hours. I blame Bruce Springsteen and I’ve told him so.”

The comments came after the two iconic musicians performed together at Sir Paul’s Glastonbury set in June 2022. The crowd was treated to renditions of Springsteen’s “Glory Days” from his 1985 album “Born in the USA” and The Beatles’ “I Wanna Be Your Man” from their second album in 1963.

Sir Paul’s accusation adds an interesting dynamic to their friendship, as the pair have been known to collaborate on stage and have shared many memorable moments together. However, it seems that Sir Paul is not shy about expressing his opinions, even to his fellow music legends.
