RAFE SPALL REFUSES SEX SCENES AFTER FLASHING ‘WILLY’ TOO MANY TIMES
Rafe Spall, son of national treasure Timothy Spall, has announced that he will no longer be participating in sex scenes due to having his private parts on display “too many times.” The 41-year-old actor, known for his roles in BBC shows Wild Sargasso Sea and The Chatterley Affair, estimated that he has starred in a whopping 18 intimate scenes throughout his career. However, he has now decided to swear off them altogether. “People are always very curious about sex scenes, I’ve actually now said that I don’t want to do them anymore,” Rafe revealed on Kathy Burke’s podcast Where There’s A Will, There’s A Wake. “I’ve done loads. Too many.” He humorously added, “They’re nice if you like 50 blokes watching you pretend to have sex. If that’s your thing!”
The actor’s decision comes after he recently announced that he is expecting a baby with his Trying co-star Esther Smith. The real-life couple portray a married couple on the Apple TV Plus drama who struggle to conceive and ultimately adopt two children. Rafe and Esther were first rumored to be dating in November 2022, following Rafe’s split from his wife of 12 years, Hollyoaks star Elize Du Toit, with whom he shares three children.
During an appearance on Lorraine, Rafe and Esther shared the exciting news of their pregnancy. Esther lovingly caressed her stomach and exclaimed, “I’ve got a little bump,” confirming their impending parenthood. Fans speculated whether the pregnancy would be incorporated into the storyline of Trying, to which the couple responded by saying they were “hoping” for another series. “We’ll have a baby, and then we’ll carry on, perhaps, with that [Trying],” Esther shared. Rafe expressed their excitement, stating, “We’re very excited.”
Congratulations poured in for the couple, with Lorraine expressing her delight and calling it “so fantastic.” Prior to their public confirmation on Lorraine, Rafe and Esther had been discreet about their relationship, though they were spotted holding hands in London. In an interview discussing the upcoming season of Trying, Rafe discussed how their on-screen characters, Nikki and Jason, reflect their real-life dynamic. “In a long-term relationship when everything else has fallen away, if you still have a laugh together, then you’re going to be alright,” Rafe explained to OK! Magazine. “In real-life Esther and I have a laugh together and share a similar sense of humor.”
