Former BBC News NI political editor Stephen Grimason, who famously broke the news of the 1998 Good Friday Agreement, has sadly passed away at the age of 67. Grimason’s passing has prompted an outpouring of heartfelt tributes, with many praising his enduring wit and intelligence.

Mark Simpson, a BBC News Correspondent, took to X to express his sadness at the news, stating, “Sad to say that former BBC NI political editor Stephen Grimason died last night at the age of 67. He was also a former Director of Communications at Stormont with the NI Executive. Stephen will be deeply missed, but always loved, by family, friends, and colleagues.”

Ken Reid, former UTV Political Editor, also shared his condolences, saying, “My thoughts are with Stephen Grimason’s family and friends. It has not been easy, but his sense of humor and intellect remained with him until the end. The tributes pouring in for him are well deserved.
