BBC Breakfast’s Charlie Stayt faced criticism from viewers on Thursday as he presented the show outside Downing Street instead of in the Salford studio. Naga Munchetty was also replaced by Nina Warhurt, who held the fort on the famous red sofa.

Charlie was at Downing Street to report on Rishi Sunak’s recent announcement about the General Elections, scheduled for July 4. He even had the opportunity to speak with the Prime Minister during the programme, and their exchange became quite heated.

Viewers took to social media to express their thoughts on Charlie’s location. One fan questioned the purpose, asking why he couldn’t have done it in the studio. Another viewer complained about the interview being conducted online, calling it a waste of money.

Some fans also criticized the show’s coverage, with one person expressing boredom and another stating that there is more to politics than just green issues.

The official BBC Breakfast Twitter account confirmed Charlie’s location, sharing a photo of him and political respondent Henry Zeffman in front of the camera at No.10. They captioned the photo, “Live from Downing Street #BBCBreakfast on the first full day of the 2024 election campaign.”

During their on-air interview, Henry discussed the Prime Minister’s announcement and mentioned the rainy weather, jokingly saying that his suit was still wet despite standing under a golf umbrella.

BBC Breakfast airs every day at 6am on BBC One.
