A star of The Fresh Prince of Bel Air has revealed that his acting career was put on hold because of his role on the popular sitcom. Alfonso Ribeiro, who played Carlton Banks on the show from 1990 to 1996, believes that his character became a hindrance to his future acting prospects. Despite the success and fame he gained from the role, Ribeiro said, “It was also the role that stopped me from acting again because people couldn’t see me as anything else.” Speaking to Closer Weekly, he admitted that not having an acting career anymore was a sacrifice he had to make. However, he has no regrets about his time on the show and fondly remembers the memories he made with the cast.

In recent years, Ribeiro has shifted his focus to hosting. He currently hosts Dancing with the Stars, America’s Funniest Home Videos, and Jack Hanna’s Passport. While he hasn’t had an acting role in nearly a decade, he expressed his willingness to return to acting if the right opportunity comes along. Ribeiro began his performing career at a young age and has had notable experiences, including appearing in a Pepsi commercial with Michael Jackson and being part of the cast of Silver Spoons. Before landing the role of Carlton on The Fresh Prince, he also made appearances on Magnum, P.I. and A Different World.
